CONTEMPORARY DANCE LITERACY PROGRAMME
The purpose of this project was to develop a sustainable business model of equipping cultural capital of Hong Kong through enhancing the consumption of culture in the form of contemporary dance. This project is a real-world intervention made on behalf of the City Contemporary Dance Company, the major performing arts organization in Hong Kong, in the form on a funding proposal to the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, which is developed based on the a landscape research of the contemporary dance audienceship in Hong Kong and the need of arts education at schools, and then propose a project proposal of audience development programme for contemporary dance through “Contemporary Dance Literacy Programme”, which consists of three major components – (1) Appreciation Workshops and Demonstrations, (2) Contemporary Dance Appreciation Workshops for Teachers, and (3) Appreciation of Professional Contemporary Dance Productions.
WHAT’S HAPPENING
CONTEMPORARY DANCE APPRECIATION WORKSHOP AND DEMONSTRATION
A 60-minute workshop which comprises of talks, contemporary dance demonstrations and interactive games to students who have less or no experience in appreciating contemporary dance. Performed and moderated by 4 professional teaching dance artists in Hong Kong, we expect a total of 112,500 students and 300 art teachers from 300 schools to participate in this programme.
CONTEMPORARY DANCE APPRECIATION WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS
It provides opportunities to enable art teachers from the 300 participated schools to facilitate contemporary dance appreciation sessions with their existing and future students. We expect a total of 300 teachers from 300 schools to join the 6-hour intensive course, which includes the key elements of content developed by the Company.
APPRECIATION OF PROFESSIONAL CONTEMPORARY DANCE PRODUCTIONS
It offers the first-hand experience to students and teachers to explore the world of contemporary dance through professional productions presented by CCDC. We expect a total of 15,000 students and 1,200 teachers from 300 participating schools to join the appreciation sessions with instructors to offer explanations before and during the performances.
